C'mon, feel the noise. |2:57 AM|
Just got back from a showing of "Mister Sinus Theater 3000" which is a local comedy group in the vein of MST3K. The movie they chose to taunt was "Masters of the Universe" with Dolph Lungren. Christ, I saw that movie back when I was 7 or 8, and I still remembered that the swiss-army-pineapple/mecha-dildo thing in the film was called a "cosmic key". The performance of the Sinus group was incredible, far funnier than you could really expect given the circumstances.
Girls, rock your boys
I had just dropped Vorpal and Casey off last night and was looking for a CD to listen to on the way home when it struck me how inconsistent my musical tastes are (Well, Vid in his infinite wisdom would claim they almost all suck, but he blows truckers for beer money). I'm going to start a list of the folks who have introduced me to various music types, it's the best way for me to start and finish any sort of cast of characters page.
From zusty I have some very peculiar varieties of music. A small sample would be Boney M's "Rah Rah Rasputin", Leo Kotke, along with (of all things) the FLCL soundtrack. By no means is this all of what she has sent me, but it's what I listen to in the car.

Videodrome has gotten me started on Pink Floyd, as well as an even greater appreciation of Led Zepplin.

Lampshade started me on to Dan Bern, as well as Mindless Self Indulgence.

Vorpal introduced me to the Flame Trick Subs, he and I go to the Hot Rod Hillbilly concerts, and he appreciates decent techno.

Poker Host Joe got me the names of some older style punk bands (Minor threat) and he, with zusty's health, turned me on to Social Distortion. Hell, I even listen to Eminem without too many complaints while I'm at Joe's place.

About the only other source for new types of music that I have outside of friends are movie soundtracks. Since I'm normally listening to classic rock stations when the radio is used, it's not like I'm going to hear the new single from a band that is either dead, or broken up, or both.

Shoot, I have to help someone move this evening, and I have to mail some packages. Curses. I'll be up half the night coding, then.

Ow. Ow. Ow. Ow. |10:25 AM|
Oooh. I got seriously reamed at poker. I went from highly positive to very, very out of the game. Ugh. I can't believe that guy had the goddamn 2 and 5 in his hand to make the damn low straight on a game of Omaha high low. Jesus. I know that doesn't make any damn sense, but just believe me when I say it was a drag.
That only cost me $10. That time. But it was my last $10.

Meanwhile, at work, we're dealing with color printer pulls and multifunction deployment. When the only joy some cubicle drone has is his or her color laser printer, and the only joy a printer program manager has is taking people's printers away, it can only end in tears.

Perhaps I'll have more to type this afternoon. I just wanted to get that poker stuff out of the way. Yeesh.

Wicked cool |3:57 PM|
Check out the recently discovered Mummified Dinosaur. This is disgustingly cool. Besides all the science crap, they can finally make a horror movie about a re-animated dinosaur that ALSO has the "Curse of the Mummy's Tomb"! But seriously, this is incredible stuff.

Also, take a gander at this:

Is it legit? Open your favorite image editor and take a look. I'll post some comparisons in a second.

Holy cats.

Speaking of neato images, here's an animated .gif of a famous "Face Spiking" scene from everyone's over-saturated anime.

You can download the rest here here.

Great leap forward planned |10:40 AM|
I've been working on some the front pages underlying bits. I've also been desperately trying to get cam portal code that doesn't blow total ass. I'm thinking I might just make the changes go through and then read the error logs/comment pages for where stuff is still broken.
This previous weekend I finally got to see "Evolution", which played out like Ghostbusters, with aliens. It's a good movie, and I'm curious as to how well it did in the box office. Oh, one thing I noticed, up until the end of the movie, there is only one death. The movie manages to keep a relatively high level of tension and interest without murdering piles of characters. A character in the movie is going for a position in the Phoenix fire department. From Sulzanti, I know that this test is incredibly difficult and brutal, and once I started thinking about that, I started noticing a lot more references to fire fighting in the film. Vorpal stated at the end "You get the feeling Ivan Reitman wanted to be a firefighter". After watching this film, I don't doubt it. I wonder how many horror movies take place in Arizona. 8 Legged freaks did, so did this film.

This week I need to build a costume. I've been forbidden from at least one party if I build a giant reaper costume, since it'll scare the animals. This is probably for the best, as the animals in question would likely tear whatever it was I made to bits. I've got some other ideas, but I may build that reaper one because someone challenged me to.

Work this week has been about as rough and busy as last week, but at least next week we won't be shorthanded. I wonder if I'll be allowed to declare the overtime from showing up early. Probably not.

I wonder how long it takes to drive from here to Savannah Georgia.

Work all day just to keep my job... |8:21 AM|
It's a bit distressing to get to work before the sun rises, but at this point it's the only way to stay ahead. I pulled some overtime over the weekend, so my paycheck will be a bit larger in a couple weeks. I did some unpaid computer repair for my folks, and it was a strange kind of ego boost when my family was so impressed by my use of a computer without a mouse. Learning to use windows without a mouse is a skill that will increase your normal work speed, as well as amuse and amaze family and friends. I decided over the weekend that I'm going to need to send out some "Season's Greetings" cards or the like to a couple of my customers. They've referred me some free-lance work, and I really appreciated it. The least I can do is make a nice gesture, and maybe bake some cookies that don't burst into flame.
I managed to try out UT2k3, and I'll have to get in touch with JP. Our destructive power was incredible on UT, and I'm sure we can join forces again for this. I wonder what the requirements are for a good server for UT2. I ran one for UT for a little while, which allowed a whole 8 humans online at once before it all went to hell. I'm sure some of that was processor, so I bet I can a couple more folks with the new hardware I have now. Well, new is relative.

I saw "Attack of the giant horny gorilla in 3D" over the weekend, and found it highly amusing. I really don't know how movies that are so blatantly terrible get made. I don't seek out crap films nearly as much as I once did, but the chance to see something that horrific, complete with 3D was tempting enough.

I had a lot more to say, since it's been a while since my last update. Some things just get burned away with only a short time, I guess. I'll throw some more stuff onto the top of this entry a little later, I'm sure.
