Train dodging: Less dangerous than computer repair? |11:05 PM|
This post is as boring as watching sand fuck. I'm just warning you now. You might want to just look at the pictures and move on.
This fucking motherboard and I are no longer on speaking terms. The plastic bracket that holds the heatsink to the board, and thus the chip, broke again, this time, the two tabs on one side that allow the heatsink to grip snapped completely off. My only hint was the computer kept shutting down, oh, and the chunks of computer hanging by a wire in front of the little window I cut into the case.
The little window has proven to be a most valuable diagnostic tool.
Anyhow, after I'd discovered that this fucking plastic piece of shit had broken again, I reacted with all the subtlety and restraint I could muster at that point.
Attempts to glue and brace the bracket met with little success, as my two part expoxy syringe had apparently developed a leak, and the volatile catalyst had evaporated. Goodness knows how long I've been breathing the fumes from that fucking thing.
Well-bond did not grip well enough to be braced. The bracket also resisted being reinforced with metal screws (Hence the screwdrivers pictured ealier)
I realized that the machine had been running for a few minutes without the core heatsink attached properly. I decided to try out just putting the sink on top of the cpu and letting its massive weight hold it together.
Seems to be working alright. Just as long as NOTHING jostles the case. I'm living on the edge here, baby. A multi-gigahertz processor running without proper cooling affixed. OOooh yeah, feel the rush.

I guess this means I shouldn't put my feet up on your computer again?
